Starbound Conservatory, the music-school drama that climbed into this spring’s most-watched lists, will return for a second season in summer 2027. The announcement was made during a live concert featuring the show’s cast and orchestra.
Director Haruka Imai returns, along with series composer Leon Takeda and the full principal voice cast. The production studio confirmed that season two will adapt the next two volumes of the original novel series, covering the students’ first international competition.
Why the renewal matters
Starbound Conservatory was not expected to succeed. It had no big franchise attached, a modest marketing budget and a premise, teenagers practising classical music, that sounded niche. Word of mouth did the rest. Its performance scenes, animated with an unusual level of attention to real fingering and bowing technique, were clipped and shared widely.
We wanted every note to look like it was really being played. Musicians noticed, and then everyone else did too.
